Windows XP Professional Performance Tips - (These made my 3D video smoother)

I had to re-install WinXP simply because it was needed after all the stuff I had installed and I wanted to fix some problems I had with jerky video and audio playback. I found some tips on the web that helped me greatly. These were verified after the initial windows install (and 3D driver update) by using 3Dmark 2001 SE. See hardware configuration below for what hardware and drivers I am using. (edicity.com and adobe.com) Here are the basic changes:

  1. From adobe: disable PagingExecutive (registry tweak; HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\ and Change "DisablePagingExecutive" to "1"
  2. From edicity.com: force network connection speed for Ethernet cards (i.e. force 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps)
  3. From edicity.com: Change LargeSystemCache
  4. From edicity.com: (with a simple mod) right-click "My Computer", go to "Properties", go to "Advanced", click "Settings" in the "Performance" section, click "Adjust for best performance", then "custom" and re-enable "Smooth screen fonts", "Smooth scroll-list", and "Use visual styles"
